Like many women of "a certain age" I take hormone replacement medication. I have reduced the dose with my Doctor's guidance, but find it still necessary to take at least the minimum dosage. A couple of weeks ago, midway through the month's supply the pharmacy said they didn't have the pills, "maybe in the afternoon." Thinking that meant no problem, I left it, pressed with other chores. More complications ensued in getting to a pharmacy - mind you in the 6 years I've been taking these pills in Morocco there has never been a supply problem - but I wasn't worried. Finally, after taking the last pill of the month on Monday I made the first stop at the pharmacy - only to find out there was a "rupture of stock" and they didn't know when they would receive more, and their advise was to check other pharmacies on the chance they still had a stray box. We went to about 6 until I said enough. Today I called my Dr. who had no explanation for the rupture, but at least offered an alternative, which I found quite easily. But I wondered, given the positive effects of this medication - as opposed to the alternative - how many women here, Moroccan or foreign, don't know there's an alternative pill and will simply stop taking hormones, going back to hot flashes, mood swings and general onryness. Now THAT, I think, has the power to disrupt this country more than a small cell of kamikaze suiciders... |
