The Fourth of July 2007...

…will always be linked with the "independence" of Scooter Libby. In yet another case of obstruction of justice, Bush made sure that Scooter wouldn't see the inside of a jail cell. It would'nt be Scooter's loose lips that would sink the Bush/Cheney ship. No matter, that ship has already taken on so much water that it's beyond "man the lifeboats time." Polling shows that between 70-90% of the American population disagrees with the commuting of Libby's sentence - it's clear and easy to understand that laws shouldn't be applied selectively one way for one's friend or staffer, another way for the rest of the population - and in flagrant disregard again for established procedures of the Department of Justice and court precedent. This president has lied us into a war based on false WMD claims, hyped a hypothetical link between Saddam Hussein and Al Quaida, advocated and promoted torture, dispensed with habeus corpus and the Geneva Conventions, then the Constitution, illegally spied on average Americans, ignored the plight of flooded New Orleans, taunted the insurgents in Iraq, ignored the deaths of nearly 3,500 Americans in Iraq, politicized the Department of Justice, the Department of Interior, and the EPA - not to mention turning over the Iraq operation to Halliburton and other close corporate allies - and never, never with any remorse. I am sad for my country today - I can only hope a line has been crossed that will mobilize people to put a stop to these madmen. And next July 4 Independence Day I hope we can all place our hands over our hearts and proudly sing for "the land of the free, and the home of the brave." Today I for one can't.
