Tonight I received the sad news that a dear friend, Ira Caplan, is no more. He died unexpectedly from heart-related effects after kidney surgery. Ira was (and will always be) and inspiration in my life. He and his devoted wife Nita were family to me and Kyle when we were in Tokyo. To receive such sad news about the death of a dear friend and be so far away is one of the negatives of living abroad. We were in constant communication and he was working hard to support Barack Obama in the PA primary. I will go on to relate in later posts some of the zany adventures we had doing "Combat" in Tokyo in the 80's and early 90's. Ira was a peacemaker, one of the most creative people I've ever known, and never reticent about challenging the status quo. Tonight I raise my glass in salute to a wonderful human being. In days ahead I will share some of my memories of my wonderful friend Ira. |
